New community AEDs installed, ready to save lives

Residents and visitors now have access to another eight potentially life-saving automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in the downtown Leavenworth core.

The Wi-Fi enabled AEDs, which analyze a heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electric shock to those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, are easy to use, with instructions in English and Spanish.

The new devices, which were installed in July 2024, are part of a $17,000 project by Cascade Medical and Cascade Medical Foundation funded with a mix of sources including a Leavenworth Lodging Tax Grant and community donations from the Community Foundation of NCW’s Give NCW online fundraising campaign in November and December 2023.

The added locations, which include München Haus and Der Sportsmann, on Front Street, Gustav’s on Highway 2, and two J5 Coffee locations, bring the total number of AEDs in the area to more than 30. (Scroll down to see list and link to instructional video)

This AED expansion project is a continuation of an effort in 2021 that resulted in the purchase and installation of 21 AEDs in 2022. That $40,000 project was led by Cascade Medical with support from the Foundation, Cascade School District, Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce and grants from the city of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Rotary and Confluence Health & Wenatchee Medical Group Community Fund.

Many individual businesses and organizations also have purchased devices. (If your business has a device and would like to be included on the list, please email details to [email protected])

Cascade Medical Foundation is hoping to continue to work with Cascade Medical to expand the availability of AEDs throughout the community.
