Cascade Medical’s Emergency Medical Services Department is offering a free community CPR class on Monday, Nov. 25, at the Leavenworth Fire Station Community Room, 228 Chumstick Highway, Leavenworth.

The classes run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Three more classes are planned in the coming year — on Wednesday, Feb. 19; Wednesday, May 21; and Wednesday, Sept. 17.

“These are the first classes we’ve been able to offer since before COVID,” Cascade Medical Paramedic Erin Adams said. She is the course instructor and works with Cascade Medical Foundation on expanding and implementing the community AED program. “With all the Community AEDs now in service, we thought it was a good time ramp up.”

The classes, geared for age 8 to adult, are for everyone interested in learning to save a life. Instruction covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, which use chest compressions to keep blood flowing after someone's heart stops beating. Starting CPR quickly can double or triple the chances of survival of someone suffering from a cardiac arrest. The classes also provide an introduction and overview of the automated external defibrillators (AEDs), devices that can help restart a heart that has stopped.

Class size is limited to 20 people. To sign up, send an email to [email protected] or call 509-669-3792.
